Arctic Weather Cancels Most Games

Arctic Weather Cancels Most Games

the NCHL

Only one game out of the five scheduled were played last weekend as the wintery weather caused teams to postpone games.  The one game that did go off featured a first place showdown in the South Division that had the visiting Lacombe Generals take over the top spot with an entertaining 4-2 win over the Red Deer Rustlers. The Generals top ranked power play scored a third period goal that was the insurance marker in the close game. Goaltender Travis Yonkman was outstanding in preserving the win as the Rustlers outshot the Generals 43-37.  Thomas Beretta 1-2-3 led the way offensively for the Generals, with Jamie Johnson 1-1-2, TJ Brown and Bryce Wilson 1-1-2 also scoring.  Replying for the Rustlers was Dylan Houston with both goals.  With his three points, Beretta jumped past Tyler Berkholtz into second place in the scoring race behind linemate Jamie Johnson.  The Generals now have 3 of the top 4 scorers in the league as captain Cam Maclise sits in 4th place.  Yonkman turned away 41 of 43 shots to clinch the win.  Rustler's starting goaltender Kramer Barnstable left the game with an injury at 5:38 of the first period and was replaced by Devon Carroll who took the loss. These teams will hook up again on January 27th in Lacombe.

To date, all four games that were cancelled have been re-scheduled. The Morinville at Devon game has been scheduled for this Saturday, and the Camrose at Westlock game will go on Sunday.  On January 28th, Wetaskiwin is at Red Deer with the game being played in Innisfail, and Morinville heads to Bonnyville.

This weekend sees five games on the slate:

On Saturday, Westlock travels to Bonnyville, looking to keep their hold on first place in the North, Camrose is in Red Deer, Morinville is in Devon, and Lacombe heads to Wetaskiwin.  A Longhorns win would move them into a first place tie with Lacombe.  On Sunday, Camrose heads to Westlock.
