When the NCHL was first started, an annual All Star game was held each year in various communities around the league. The game itself was originally brought about to recognize above average performance from the players and coaches as well as to promote comraderie among players in the league. The All Star games were played from 1995-96 to 2001-02 at which time it was determined that the game would discontinue going forward. This was back when the league was playing 24-28 games a season. so squeezing in another weekend proved to be difficult (the game was always held on the first weekend in January after the Christmas break). Starting in the 2002-03 season, the league would announce annual All Star teams through team ballots.
The 7 All Star games were held in the following communities:
1995-96 - Whitecourt
1996-97 - Athabasca
1997-98 - Edson
1998-99 - Fox Creek
1999-2000 - Hinton
2000-01 - Slave Lake
2001-02 - Whitecourt
Thank you to Bryce Palmer, Jerry Muise, Grant Drewniak, Ian Chwok and Donald Hailes for supplying the pictures of the jerseys from those early All Star games.
